APS3 pitch guide (300 words)
Short answer: For a 300-word APS3 pitch, use one example of about 234 words each, between a roughly 36-word opening and a 30-word close. The panel wants to see that you manage your own workload, treat clients and data with care, and know when to escalate.
What APS3 panels expect
An APS3 role is about doing defined work accurately and reliably within established procedures. The panel wants to see that you manage your own workload, treat clients and data with care, and know when to escalate.
- Completing routine tasks accurately, often at volume, using set procedures and systems
- Managing your own priorities and meeting deadlines with day-to-day guidance
- Giving courteous, correct information to clients and colleagues
- Recognising when something is outside your authority and escalating it properly
Structure and word budget for 300 words
300 words is tight: one strong example plus a two-sentence opening and a one-sentence close. Pick the example that covers the most criteria.
| Part | Words | What goes here |
|---|---|---|
| Opening | 36 | Name the APS3 role, your current role and what your examples will show. |
| Example 1: Handling a spike in counter enquiries | 234 | S ~23 · T ~23 · A ~140 · R ~47 |
| Closing | 30 | Link your evidence to this APS3 role in one or two sentences. |

What to emphasise at APS3
- Accuracy: errors you caught, checks you ran, records you kept clean
- Client care in difficult or high-volume situations
- Reliability: volumes handled, deadlines met, cover provided
- Small, practical improvements you suggested or made
What to avoid
- Claiming you 'managed' or 'led' things you contributed to; panels read that as inflated
- Spending most of your words on the workplace rather than what you did
- Leaving out numbers: daily volumes and turnaround times are strong evidence at this level
Verbs that suit APS3 (only if accurate): processed, checked, resolved, recorded, followed up, explained, suggested.
Coming from outside the APS? Retail, hospitality, call-centre and admin roles give strong APS3 evidence: volume, accuracy and dealing with upset customers.
Fictional example outline: Customer Service Officer (APS3)
An outline, not a script. The scenarios are invented. Use them to see what APS3-level evidence looks like, then write about your own experience.
Example 1: Handling a spike in counter enquiries
- Situation: School-holiday rush; queue times over 40 minutes.
- Task: Keep service accurate while two colleagues were on leave.
- Action: Triaged the queue by enquiry type; prepared a one-page sheet of common answers; checked each form before lodging; escalated two complex cases to my supervisor.
- Result: Average wait fell to under 20 minutes; no lodgement errors that fortnight; my answer sheet is now used at the counter.
